Patty was a proud native of the Pilsen neighborhood where she attended Jungman Elementary School, Cooper Upper Grade Center and Benito Juarez High School. As a young girl, she loved playing various sports including soccer, softball, gymnastics and volleyball. Her spiral throwing a football was better than most boys her age. As a young adult, she was recognized as one of the top female soccer players in the city as a multiple-time member of La Selección Femenil Clasa. She continued playing competitive soccer into her 40s and even played with some of her former teammates’ daughters. She then transitioned to coaching her boys when they began playing soccer.
Patty and Jorge met in 1989 on the 18th St. train platform and married in 1994 at St. Paul’s Church in Chicago. They had their first son, Jorge Jr., in 1998. And after working as an assistant loan officer for several years, she became a full-time homemaker and stay-at-home mother in 2001 with the birth of Manuel.
In addition to Jorge and Manuel, Patty also had what she referred to as her “four-legged babies.” She is reunited in eternity with Tyson and leaves behind Mowgli and Xena. She loved taking her dogs on long walks and bringing them along on trips to Indiana and Michigan.
She loved to travel with her family. A lover of nature and hot sunny weather – Patty was at her happiest on a beach with a Coors Light surrounded by her boys. She admired sunsets, lakes and oceans, flowers and lighthouses. Purple was her favorite color.
Patty was also known for her green thumb – raising dozens of plants in her home and growing fruits and vegetables from seeds in her garden. She would often propagate plants using cuttings from her collection to give to family and friends.
Patty loved sharing her talents with others. Among those talents was her ability to sew. She was the go-to person in the family for needs as small as fixing a zipper to creating dresses for quinceaneras and wedding parties.
Out of her many talents, Patty was perhaps best known for her cooking and baking skills. Her cooking ranged from Mexican to Italian, Chinese to traditional American cuisine. Among her numerous dinner specialities, her tamales, gumbo, chili, ceviche, and salsa were some of her family’s favorites. She was also known for making from scratch many desserts including flan, butter cookies, brookies, different variations of cheesecakes, chocolate chip and lollipop cookies, and cherry and blueberry coffee cakes. There was never a new recipe she could not master or improve.
Patty loved children and was a motherly figure to many in the family and Santa Lucia community. From the time she was a teenager, she was like a second mother to her nephews and nieces – always present and always willing to help. She carried over these qualities to the Santa Lucia community where she was beloved by students, parents and faculty.
Patty always put others before herself – almost never saying “No” when called upon for help – even to a fault. She always remembered important dates and planned ahead for her family. She was especially good at remembering birthdays and anniversaries. She was outgoing, had a great sense of humor and enjoyed being with people. She was the life of the party with a radiant smile and a contagious laugh that filled every room she graced with her presence.
Patty’s visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 4-9pm at Church of the Holy Family, 1080 W. Roosevelt Rd., Chicago. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday February 22, 2024 at St. Procopius Church 1202 W. 18th St. (Corner of 18th & Allport) Chicago at 10am. Burial to follow at St. Casimir Cemetery, 4401 W. 111th St., Chicago.

Patty was my dear friend who I had the luxury of sharing so many wonderful moments with. From tears, joy and a whole lot of laughter through out our life together. I learned so much from her and the love she had for her family who was her EVERYTHING
One of my favorite memories of Patty was our very long walks during lunch to Navy Pier to get to McDonald’s and order our large fries with extra ketchup. Our commutes to and from work with no A/C on in very HOT temperatures because Patty loved the summer. Thank you Patty for showing me what true friendship is all about and loving me just as much as I loved you. I’m really gonna miss your “Hola frenasa de mi vidasa” and “From damwampambam!” texts.
Life won’t ever be the same without you, and I’m just looking forward to seeing you again so we can pick up right where we left off. I love you Patty.

We send our deepest sympathy to Jorge, their sons, and the Cazares and Herrera families. We have loved our visits with Patty over the years, although our time with her was too short and the opportunities were too few. We were always blessed by her joyful and positive attitude. Patty’s loving spirit, compassion, and dedication to caring for her family, and especially her mother, have been an inspiration to us.
We pray that God will provide His peace and His presence to comfort the Cazares and Herrera families.

Patty was such an amazing person to be around. She always made me feel at home anytime I came to visit the family. She was like a 2nd mom to me, and I will forever cherish the memories I have of her. I will remember Patty as a ray of sunshine, always happy and positive. It was great being around her because she made you feel loved. I will really miss her sense of humor. She made me laugh a ton every time I saw her, which made her so fun to be around. I’m thankful for the time I was able to spend with her and grateful for the memories I have of her. She will be dearly missed.

I wish to convey my deepest condolences to Patty and her beloved family. We were good friends in high school, and, although we lost touch over the years, which I now deeply regret, Patty was the type of individual that one never forgets. I certainly never did, and she remains one of my fondest childhood memories. my heart breaks for her much too early passing.
Patty was a jovial, kind and loving individual whose ever present smile could light up a room. May her memory be for a blessing.

Heaven truly gained an angel. Patty, you were such a good friend and the void left behind will never be filled. The sadness and pain is overwhelming. I will never forget your smile and laughter and all the good times we had – from the St. Lucy events to our trips to Napa, Las Vegas, New York and Wilmington to the countless parties. This still doesn’t seem real. There’s comfort in knowing you were reunited with your father and brother who you missed so much. Praying that Jorge and the boys will be surrounded by love, peace and strength, and may there be endless Coors Lights and french fries in heaven. Love you.

Patty,
You will never be forgotten. You were an amazing person inside and out. I knew you over 40 years. I remember meeting during piano lessons at Benito Juarez. You took me under your wing. You were protector, counselor and treated me as your little sister. Best part was that you told to hang around with the Seniors and stay away from the freshman. Which was the best decision I ever made. You will always be in our hearts and mind.
Graciela Vega
I pray that God may bless Patty in heaven as he did here on earth.. May she rest in peace. And for all her family and friends that mourn her I prey for all the love, strength, faith, and prayers needed to endure the pain of their loss. May God bless you all . Amen 🙏
