Jesse David Garcia passed away peacefully at home at the age of 72 on May 31, 2024, after a terminal illness. Born in Chicago, IL to Epimenio Garcia and Dolores Acosta on September 23,1951.
He lived in Pilsen on Allport Street with his mom (Grandma Nena to most) and siblings Lucille (Lucy) and Richard (Rick) until he met his future wife Maria (Janie). They lived in the Pilsen neighborhood with their sons Robert, Nicholas, Paul, Jesse Jr and David until they moved to Cicero, IL. They spent their summers at his second and forever home Woodhaven Lakes, near Sublette, IL with family and friends creating lasting memories.
Jesse David loved his family deeply although he had a hard time showing it. He supported his family and raised his children to the best of his ability. He also took on a few strays. He had numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
After graduating from Saint Rita High School, he started working for Xerox until his retirement. He enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, gardening, smoking a good cigar accompanied by a glass of scotch with anyone who wished to join him. He loved watching his “old & new programs” on TV but enjoyed arguing outcomes and plot twists with family and friends.
During his lifetime he accumulated numerous nicknames: Jesse, Jess, Dave, David, Garcia, Garc, Tio, Pepe, Papa, Grumpy, Grumpa, Dad, and Old Man. But no matter what you called him, his generosity and love had no limits. The “Old Man” will be missed, but his story doesn’t end. He left behind plenty of memories, which can be used to keep his spirit alive. So, pick your favorite moment and remember the good times. Share his storiepreferablying and hearing him complain about the Chicago Bears, sitting at Woodhaven near the campfire talking about Santana concerts, and/or his infamous “Uncle Jimmy and Uncle Bear” escapades preferable around a campfire and keep his spirit going. God Speed.
Jesse David is survived in life by his wife of 48 years Maria (Janie), his son Robert and wife Dolores and their children: Bobbi, Thomas and Dolores, Cheryl & Angel and their children: Emilia and Mateo, his son Jesse Jr, his son David and his partner Adeliada, his son Nicholas’s children Abigail and Brandon and his daughter Isabella, his son Paul’s children Anthony, Paul Jr, George and his daughter Aliyah and Cynthia and her children Harleen, Kal-El, and Renesmee, sister Lucy and her children, his brother Rick and wife Rose and their children.
He is preceded by his parents Dolores and Epimenio, his oldest sister Juanita (Mona), his sons Nicholas & Paul and his brothers by choice Uncle Jimmy and Uncle Bear.
Memorial Service is a one-day event: Saturday June 15, 2024, from 10am until 2pm at Christian Fellowship Church 4220 W. 59th Street, Chicago, IL 60629

I’m saddened for all of our loss. David was a great guy. One of the best, a wise fountain of information. He could always make you laugh. I really thought he’d be with us alot longer. He will be missed.
David is with his God, and now at peace and with some of his most beloved ones in Heaven.
With condolences to his Wife and all his family.

My condolences to the Garcia family – very unfortunate that I’m unable to attend My good friends funeral. We have been friends for over 70 years! I’m very sadden, that he is gone, he was ALWAYS A GOOD PERSON & never treated me badly – nor did I him! I remember2 years ago this month, he told me he had a serious respiratory illness! I hope he is in a better place. I will always be your friend! Tony Rico
