Day Alva Beckman was born November 24, 1913 the third daughter of Enoch Godwin and wife Nollie Bell, nee Hill, in Lometa, Texas. On July 24, 1936 she married Frank Brock Trainer of Chillicothe, Ohio. Two children were born of this union, a son, Frank Emlyn (12-25-1937) and a daughter, Dixie Lee (10-1-1942). Frank Brock Trainer died November 11, 1965. She later married Charles F. Beckman of Commercial Point Ohio on July 7,1991. They lived in Chillicothe and Mesa Arizona. Charles Beckman died May of 2002 in Mesa. Day Alva died April 27, 2011 in Chicago, Illinois.
Day Alva is survived by a brother, Ira Godwin; and two sisters, Beulah Holland and May Dell Dupuis; her son, Frank Trainer (Oak Brook, Illinois); and daughter, Dixie Lee Lauer (Columbus, Ohio); eight grandchildren, Sarah Gold, Frank W. Trainer, Paul Trainer, Laura Sickels, Julie Vore, Anita Lauer, Bob Lauer and Dan Lauer; and 11 great-great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Glenna Mae Ross, Lillian Brown, Tiana Smith, Ruth Gadbury; and brother, Riley Godwin.
She was a graduate of Ohio University and a grade school teacher in Chillicothe for many years until her retirement. She was a long time active member of Trinity Methodist Church, the Chillicothe Garden Club, and the DAR. In retirement Day loved spending winters in Arizona, being with her friends and family, gardening, quilting, square dancing, and traveling. A proud moment for her was having her yard in Chillicothe be on the Garden Tour and getting her picture on the cover of the Chillicothe Gazette Weekend Insert. Day will be missed.
