Lillian Feden passed away peacefully at home in her sleep on February 4, 2024 under comfort care by her devoted older brother George Feden. Cherished daughter of the late Benjamin and the late Mitsue Feden. Loving sister of George (Leonora) Feden and Margaret (late Peter Martinez) Vawter. Proud aunt of Cherie Vawter, David Martinez, Peter Daniel Martinez, Kimberly (Christopher) Delinski and Benjamin (Jennifer) Feden. Fond great aunt of six.
Private services took place at Evergreen Cemetery, Evergreen Park where Lillian’s ashes were interred on February 16, 2024. Spoken remembrances were in accord with Lillian’s wish to have her life celebrated as full and well-lived.
Lillian was remembered as a caring, giving, “lovely woman” who was humble and unassuming but also of very strong character, fully capable of self-assertion in her soft-spoken, often humorous but always succinct and laser-focused style. Everyone recalled her delightful, unique laugh.
Lillian came back to her birth city of Chicago after graduating high school in Colonial Heights, Virginia to complete her B.A. in Communications at Loyola University. She put to good use her organizational skills, inherited from both parents, in her career as Executive Assistant. She was always cutting-edge in technological developments of media and internet. She combined and applied her skills in her hobby as super-fan and eventual supporter of performing arts (several television and stage productions, conferences) and discovered that she was a gifted writer, as well. Her resultant vast range of virtual community and friends more than made up for her decreased physical mobility and range as her medical issues increased.
Lillian maintained a charming condo in the heart of the city with multiple amenities (four out of ten on a Japanese cousin’s “must-do in Chicago” list were within walking distance of her condo) and provided an adjoining condo and mutual support for her mother in her mother’s latter years. Lillian’s choice of residence was also very practical as it put her very close (less than a mile) to all of her and her mother’s medical professional services at Northwestern Memorial Hospital main campus.
Lillian Feden was a beautiful, generous person who by nature gave much more than she received as she uncomplainingly lived an all too short but very full life. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her life.
