Julie Marie Byrne, a loving daughter, sister and aunt, passed away on January 15, 2024, at the age of 74, in her hometown of Chicago, Illinois. Born on April 7, 1949, in Chicago, Julie dedicated over 30 years of her life to serving the community as a civilian investigator with the Chicago Police Department.
Julie was well-known for her lifelong passion for horses and her unwavering commitment to her work. She worked tirelessly for the Chicago Police Department, leaving a lasting impact on the department and the city as a whole. Her dedication and expertise made her an invaluable asset to the force.
In addition to her successful career, Julie cherished her family and leaves behind a legacy of love and care. She is survived by her sisters and brothers: Theresa Marie Byrne Spohn (Dr. Earle Spohn), Nancy Marie Byrne, Jeanne Marie Byrne (Joseph Leich), Loretta Marie Byrne Orr, Paul V. Byrne lll (Bille Jo Lamey-Byrne), Mary Frances Byrne Connolly (Michael Connolly), Peter Joseph Byrne (Diane Anthony Byrne), and Ann Marie Byrne Garvey (Robert Garvey). She was preceded by the death of her mother, Jean Cudney Byrne and father, Paul V. Byrne Jr
Julie’s memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and colleagues. Her dedication, kindness, and love will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.

Julie…What can I say! We had such a ride together for the last 2 1/2 years. Especially the excruciating last year. You were a real champion throughout it all. I Dont think I could have been as brave and persistent as you were. You made all the right efforts to get better. You fought all the time…and yet still were so happy when I brought you KFC or a steak burrito. Loved watching all the westerns on TV with you. I learned about every movie star and how many of the shows they were on…..I loved sharing our memories together and how you always knew the weather before any of us..and made sure we didn’t come if it was really bad! I will miss our time together and listening to Neil Diamond and Rod Stewart. Love ❤️ you always! Be happy with Mom & Dad now.

I found your lost bracelet in the yard during a BBQ at the house on Hoyne before Pete and I were married. We were friends ever since. Thank you for your friendship and accepting me into your family. Thank you also for taking such good care of my family. We woke you twice during the night, once to watch Kevin when I went into labor with Matt and then to watch Kevin and Matt when Laura came into the world. You witnessed and alerted us to Matthew’s first asthma attack and stayed with Kevin while we rushed him to the Emergency Room. You gave them the best sleepovers and memories. We knew we could always count on you. Thank you also for the many Rod Stewart concerts you took us to. Such fun! There is now a void where you once were but I’m grateful for the many amazing memories you created for me and the times we recently were able to spend together. I didn’t even mind that you word-associated my name with diaper! That memory will always put a smile on my face. Love you.

My playmate growing up on Ellis ave. We rode pretend horses in the back yard ; on late nites when we heard the “12 o’clock drunkman near the side of our house, I would curl up next to you cuz you were not afraid!!
I am still processing your death. My 3x/ week visits to see you at Lagrange msg home are gone now , so I use that time a little differently ( no I am not watching Rifleman and Wagon Train) Please save me a seat up there in heaven🥵👄❤️❤️❤️

I’m so sorry for you all loss. I only met her once but when I did she was so kind and had so many fascinating stories that she told us. I just wish I would of been able to see her more to get to know more about her.

Rest in peace, Aunt Julie. I’ll never forget the fun times and sleepovers we had in that apartment across the hall from Cha. It was usually Jeff Orr and I that got to hang out with you together, watching movies we otherwise weren’t allowed to watch (Top Gun, The Naked Gun). Long nights of candy, popcorn, and laughing. I’m glad you’re through with the pain now and hope you’ve got those same great memories.

One of my favorites was when we were very young and staying at Watersmeet house on Lake Tamarac…there was a porcupine scratching screen door and I was yelling at it while you pretended to be asleep with covers over your head…so much for some needed help but it didn’t get in!
How about my trips to Dallas…so much fun trying to find freeway from downtown…passing Parkland Hospital several times pretending to know your way…but you didn’t..still had fun being shown all the sights and even getting to
Fort Worth and being let in to the infamous Billy Bob’s even though it was closed…you really knew how to charm them!!
