John “Jack” T. Stapleton, age 77, of Downers Grove passed away on October 24, 2017.
Born on March 18, 1940 in New Berlin, Illinois to the late John P. and Velma R. (Sebring) Stapleton. Growing up in Springfield, IL he graduated from Springfield High School in 1958. His work career began as an Engineering Technician for the State of Illinois from 1958-1964. He later graduated from Northern Illinois in 1967 and earned a Masters in Educational Administration from the University of Illinois in 1972. A long time educator, John taught his first year at Kaneland High School and later served as an Industrial Education teacher and Dean at Downers Grove South High School for 26 years.
He was a long time member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church where he served on numerous committees. As an active member in the community he served on the Downers Grove Traffic Commission and was a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Downers Grove. John had strong passion for sports which included coaching his son’s little league teams as well as watching his grandkids participate in their many activities.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy of 54 years; daughter, Amy L. (Doug) Conderman; son, Jon L. (Kim) Stapleton; four granddaughters, Alyssa Conderman, Grace Stapleton, Abby Stapleton, Hannah Stapleton; and one grandson, Michael Conderman. He is also survived by one sister, Patricia Stapleton; and two brothers, Kevin Stapleton and Mark Stapleton.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Kunz; and one brother, Terrance Stapleton.
Visitation will be Friday, November 10th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Downers Grove. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 11th 10:00am at St. Andrew’s Church, Downers Grove.
