I have so many good memories of Mrs. Bolen. She was so good to me and I love her dearly. I have always admired her for so many things. Her smile was always warm and her laugh was contagious. I felt safe and secure when I was at Jim and Candy’s house. Candy was an amazing mother and I hope I can emulate those qualities as I raise my own children. There were so many times that I sought Candy out for her advice on things. I am thankful for the time I had with her and all the love she had to share. When I had my first child, Candy made several beautiful clothing items for the baby. She embroidered Ava’s name on blankets and hats and little newborn shirts, I was so touched that so took the time to do this. I am sending my love to Taylor, Wellesley and Jim…you are in my thoughts and prayers.

The last time I saw Candy was in 1976 at the first of our Shaw ’66 reunions, It was just after that first daughter was born and Candy was uncomfortable with being so far from her newborn. That is when my husband, Dave, and I first met you, Jim. I remember it like it was yesterday…Candy had on a beautiful cocoa-colored gown and looked stunning as she always had during our jr high years. I spoke with her a few times since then and enjoyed reminiscing about school days. Jim, Taylor, Wellesley and Candy’s sibs, Debbie and Evan…I’m so sorry for your loss…that seems so inadequate a comment, but what could possible lessen your pain? She will always be remembered as a happy sweetness that touched our lives and we’re all blessed to have known her.

Colleen -nurse from northwestern
I was thinking of Candace at work, like I do many days. When you have a patient like Candace, it makes me feel so proud and humbled to be able to do what I do as a nurse. I loved visiting Candace even when she was not my assigned patient because she was just an amazing person. I’m so proud of her for fighting as hard as she did and I am so proud of Weselley for being so strong and unbreakably supportive. You two have dealt touched my heart, and I will be forever grateful and treasure the moments we shared.

Jim,
(Candy) was my BFF from grade 8 through college year 2. In college year 1, we shared a dorm. In year 2, we shared an apartment with 4 others. I loved her. My parents loved her. She and her family had a profound impact on my life. ( As a side note, I vacationed with her family and she with mine.) We were inseparable for years. I learned of her passing last week when I wanted to confirm her address through Google. I thought a birthday card from her old friend was long overdue. Indeed it was.
My deepest condolences for the loss of your beloved. Lin
