William “Bill” M. Lee, 51, of Downers Grove, IL, died on Saturday, July 30, 2016, after a long illness. Bill is survived by his wife, Malinda Hamann; his children, Quentin and Ben Lee; his parents, William M. Lee and Lynn Pittinos; his sister, Shannon Smith; and six nieces and nephews. Born in Atlanta, GA, Bill grew up in Greenville, SC. Bill received a B.S.E.E. from the University of South Carolina and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Physics from Georgia State University. Bill devoted his career to Fermilab particle physics research, where he coordinated operation of the DZero detector, an experiment designed to explore proton antiproton collisions to investigate the fundamental nature of matter. He also contributed to operation of neutrino experiments, and conducted public outreach activities.
Visitation on Friday, August 12, from 4 to 7 pm. Funeral on Saturday, August 13, at 11 am. Both will be held at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1125 Franklin St., Downers Grove, IL, 60515. In lieu of flowers, Bill asked that donations be made to
