Kenneth Sloup, age 72, was born August 27, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois, the younger son of John F. and Blanche R., nee France, Sloup. Faithful throughout his courageous battle with cancer, and surrounded by his family, Ken went to be with the Lord on December 24, 2023.
Ken was raised in Lisle, Illinois, attending Lisle High School. He excelled as a natural athlete, particularly in hockey and baseball. Ken was an honor student as well and graduated from Lisle High School in 1969. Ken married his high school sweetheart, Louanna M. Dicks in 1972, the start of a loving marriage that lasted over 51 years until his death. After high school Ken continued his education in tool and die design. After finishing trade school, he began his career at Sure-Way Die Design. He was employed at Sure-Way for 49 years. During his nearly 50-year career his talents were a key to the success of the business.
Ken and Louanna welcomed their daughter Ami in 1975. Ken was a long-time resident of Woodridge. In his later years he was highly involved at Christ the Servant Catholic Church. Ken’s strong faith guided him though out his life, being a servant leader for his family and community. He was a trusted mentor to many of his family and friends.
Ken was an avid golfer and thoroughly enjoyed poker nights with his long-time buddies. Of his many hobbies, being a Chicago sports fan ranked highly. He enjoyed watching it all, from the Cubs and Sox to the Bears, Blackhawks and Bulls. Ken enjoyed collecting stamps, making puzzles, reading books and making wood working projects for Louann.
As a proud grandfather Ken was highly involved in his grand children’s lives. He volunteered as a coach for both baseball and basketball. He also served as CCD teacher and confirmation sponsor their “Papa”, his devotion was endless.
Ken is survived by his beloved and beautiful wife Louanna; their loving daughter Ami (David) DeAngelis; cherished grandchildren Emily (Tyler Johanson), Michael, Nicholas (Agnes Haraburda), Thomas (Key Negron); adored great-grandson Adonis; dear brother James (Joanne Hess), fond and respected uncle and great uncle of many; dear brother in law to Clark (Patricia) Dicks and Nancy (Randy) Strauel.
Visitation on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 3-8 pm at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville, Illinois. Family and friends may gather Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Christ the Servant Catholic Church, 8700 Havens Dr., Woodridge to Celebrate Ken’s Funeral Mass at 11:00 am.
