Hermila C. Alvarez “Mila” 81, of Chicago, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 25, 2021 at her home. She was born on August 20, 1940 in Sandias, Durango, Mexico. Daughter of Santiago Alvarez and Felicitas Corral de Alvarez. Her parents proceeded her in death.
Hermila was a 50 year resident of the Pilsen community who owned and worked at Los Cuatro Hermanos Grocery Store. She was a devout Catholic who helped many families in the neighborhood, guided through her Faith and love of Christ. She had a strong work ethic and also enjoyed crocheting, good ole fashion Polaroid photography, baking, and cooking. Which, she was famously known throughout Chicagoland for her delicious tamales, menudo, and barbacoa!
She is survived by her four loving sons, Santiago (Alejandra) Rodriguez, Roberto (Victoria) Rodriguez, Artemio (Maria) Rodriguez, Gilberto (Rosa Isela) Rodriguez; 13 grand children, Maribel, Roberto, Mercedes, Gerardo, Alondra, Cynthia, Jesus, Michael, Filomena, Anthony, Emanuel, Angela, and Lesley; 1 great grand daughter, Issabella; two sisters, Angela Alvarez, Maria Antonia Araiza; 1 brother, Rafael (Argelia) Alvarez; along with numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Visitation: Friday, October 29, 2021 at St Pius V. Church, 1901 S. Ashland Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60608. Public Visitation from 2:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m. the start of mass will begin promptly ay 6:30 p.m.
Funeral Service: Family and friends will meet in front of Los Cuarto Hermanos Grocery store at 9:30 a.m. to line up cars who will be in procession to cemetery. Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. at St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery, 4401 W. 111 St., Chicago, Illinois 60655.
