Carlene (Bowen) Johnson, 91, passed away on June 30, 2015. A long-time resident of Sun City, Arizona, she spent the last few years of her life in Illinois near her son Larry. She was born in Centerville, Tennessee on October 15, 1923, the daughter of the late Carl and Gladys (Banks) Bowen. She grew up in Nashville where she married, worked, and started a family. During World War II, she was a riveter in the Vultee aircraft plant and after the war continued to work at Vultee (later Avco), but in an office. In 1978, she and her husband, Dennis, moved to Sun City, where they were among those who founded the West Olive Church of Christ. In her seventies and eighties, she worked in the Silver Bullets program at Wells Fargo. Carlene was known and loved for her quick wit and sense of humor. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years. She is survived by her only son Larry (Anne) Johnson of Naperville, Illinois, and two grandsons Matt (Molly) Johnson of Lockport, Illinois and Ben (Robin) Johnson of Denver, Colorado, four great grandchildren (Zack, Zoe, Nalia, and Jasper) and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 26 at 11:00 AM at the Bellevue Church of Christ located at 7401 Highway 70 South, Nashville, Tennessee 37221. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the West Olive Church of Christ (10935 W. Olive, Peoria, AZ 85345) or to the charity of your choice.
