Print Obituary & CondolencesJose Zapiain
Jose Miguel Zapiain passed away surrounded by his family on February 4th, 2023. Born on September 28th, 1941, to Rosa & Anastacio Tello in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico, Jose made his way to Chicago where he met and built a life with his wife Imelda A. Zapiain. They were married on
February 20th, 1960 He is survived by his wife and eight children: Rosa Zapiain, Inez Alonso (Gonzalo), Jose Miguel Zapiain Jr (Susie), Yolanda Zapiain, Imelda Patricia Zapiain-Adams (Chris), Ana Luz Lopez (Joey), Cecilia Zapiain (Francisco), Ruth Angelica Zapiain (Ruben); 22 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
After emigrating from Mexico at the age of 17, Jose Miguel would go on to proudly become a US citizen, spend 33 years as a machinist at Advanced Printers, and be described by all who knew him as kind, hardworking, and deeply devoted to his family. In his later years, Jose Miguel could frequently be found reading his newspaper, exploring Chicago’s senior offerings with his wife in his cherished Dodge Van, checking in on his beloved Cubbies, and spending time with his grandchildren-all of whom will remember their Wito with only the best of memories . While very much a man of few words, he made sure to let his family know they were loved, took time to crack a joke—often laughing before he could complete it (a trait shared by many of his children and grandchildren)—and always enjoyed an ice cold Pepsi and peanuts.
Services will be held on Monday, February 13th at 10:00AM, preceded by a wake at 9:0oAM at St. Procopius Roman Catholic Church 1202 West 18th Street(Corner of Allport Street and 18th Street), Chicago, IL 60608. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to Missionaries of Charity Contemplative Order at 1629 S Allport, Chicago IL 60608. Donations can be mailed directly to the Sisters or donated at the service.

Mi Amiga Lucy Abulita, my thoughts and prayers will always be with you and your family. You would always smile when we talked about your parents. You took such good care of both of them even taking off work, doing whatever needed to be done. So you get telling jokes, making people laugh from your dad huh 😃 . Thank God for him. May he rest in peace. 🙏
