Burial Vaults

What is a burial vault?

A burial vault is a concrete receptacle that protects the casket against the weight of earth and withstand the pressure of large cemetery equipment-weighing as much as 14,000 pounds.  There is no law that says a burial vault must be used.  Rather it is a requirement of cemteries throughout the Chicago area.
